Learning happens while you are not consciously watching others behavior , Social Cognitive theory comes along when you take what you have learned and then you begin to model others behavior. Some of us may or may not perform the behavior depending upon what it may be.  Social Learning Theory / Social Cognitive Theory are used in the way we communicate, our education, and psychology. This theory came from an influence of observing, watching and then modeling ones behavior from media influences, social interactions , and experiences one may have had.

Example : “ Reinforcement and punishment play a role in whether or not the modeled behavior is imitated or performed.”  A person can watch another person playing Wii bowling and the other person is watching the player interact with the game system as if he or she is there, the other person that had not played with this system watching the playing enjoy the experience it will be more likely that they will adopt the system.
